Rawya Rageh has covered the Middle East and Africa for the Associated Press and Al Jazeera English. She was the first AJE correspondent to cover the unfolding protests in Egypt on January 25, 2011, which led to the ouster of President Hosni Mubarak. She covered the country's subsequent, tumultuous transitional period, including Mubarak's trial, landmark parliamentary and presidential elections, and Mohammed Morsi's removal from office. Her coverage of Egypt's 2011 Revolution was listed by her alma mater, Columbia University Graduate School of Journalism, among "100 Great Stories" by its alumni in the past 100 years. Rageh was among the few international journalists to first cover the crisis in Darfur when it began and produced a rare half-hour sit-down interview with embattled Sudanese President Omar Al Bashir after his ICC indictment. In 2014, she has been covering Nigeria's ongoing battle with Boko Haram and its impact on people across the country. She also covered South Sudan's post-independence violence from the border with Kenya, and Kenya's confrontation with the Somali group, Al Shabab. She also spent a year as AJE's Iraq Reporter in 2010 and had covered the country after the US-led invasion in 2003 for the Associated Press. Rageh was also the first AP newswoman to cover the annual Hajj pilgrimage in Saudi Arabia.
