John McGrew is a composer, singer, multi-instrumentalist, and music supervisor currently residing in Los Angeles, CA. John is the co-creator and composer of the stage musical, The Village of Vale, which premiered at Lincoln Center in 2017. In addition to Vale, McGrew's original musicals include Cupid & Psyche (with lyrics and book by Jon Karpinos), and Apollo Run's Here Be Dragons, which debuted at Yale College Arts in 2016. McGrew's dance theater musical composition collaborations include DanSpace Project's Food For Thought, Jack Ferver, Judith Sanchez Ruiz, Colleen Thomas, Zenon Dance Company, Bill Young, Tony Orrico, and Enrico Wey. The New York Times called McGrew's music for the Jack Ferver dance performance piece, Death Is Certain, both "ominous" and "delicate." In 2013, McGrew composed the theme music for the TED Talk conference, TED Talk: The Young. The Wise. The Undiscovered. (with Graham Fisk, artist Oliver Jeffers, and videographer Mac Premo). From 2016-2020, McGrew created music and content for Fisher-Price and Mattel, Inc. From 2018-2020, McGrew was the in-house music supervisor at Mattel Television. McGrew performs across the country with his NYC-based group Apollo Run, whose "talent for quickly jelling melodies" was recognized by NPR, among others, including Huffington Post, Time Out, Crawdaddy!, and LAist. Apollo Run released a new self-titled EP in December 2020. McGrew works in Music Creative & Production at Netflix.
