Stephanos Minoglou was born in Athens, Greece in 1989. In 2012, he graduated with an MS in Cosmology from the University of Chicago. Since then he has studied and directed fiction for cinema whilst also writing screenplays. After directing his first short film Heretic, he graduated with distinction from the London Film Academy in 2018, where he directed Embers. The Ruins of Athens is his third short film.
