Marcella was born in San Antonio, Texas and started off her career in entertainment in the International Publicity department for Sony Pictures. She eventually left Sony to work as a development executive at Roland Emmerich's producing partner, Harald Kloser's, production company. She worked in production with Kloser and Emmerich on several film and TV projects, and began writing and developing her own projects too. She decided to pursue her career as a filmmaker and produced a supernatural thriller with Kloser that she co-wrote as well. She eventually left to start her own production company and wrote and directed a short film, My Name is Maria de Jesus, that's based on the true story of the Americanization process her family went through growing up in Texas. The film premiered on HBO Latino and is available on HBO On Demand. In the fall of 2019 she did a national university speaking tour with her short film where she screened the film and spoke to the students on campus. She's focused on writing and directing projects that promote diversity in front of and behind the camera.
