Bhargav Saikia was born in Assam, India. He is the founder of the Mumbai-based film production company, Lorien Motion Pictures. Saikia's maiden production, Kaafiron Ki Namaaz (2013), premiered at the Jeonju International Film Festival in South Korea. His directorial debut short, Awakenings (2015), was screened at several prominent genre film festivals, including Sitges, Neuchâtel and Razor Reel Flanders. The Black Cat (2017), Saikia's acclaimed fantasy short, was an adaptation of a short story written by celebrated Indian author, Ruskin Bond. Featuring veteran actors, Tom Alter and Shernaz Patel, the film received multiple nods, including nominations for Best Fiction Film and Best Director, at the 2018 Critics' Choice Short Film Awards presented by India's Film Critics Guild. Furthermore, Saikia's feature project, The Ordeal, was an official selection of BiFan's Network of Asian Fantastic Films (NAFF) co-production market in 2018. Bokshi (2024) is his feature directorial debut.
