Stacey Monroe

Stacey Monroe is a medical assistant, but to get there, she had to face some truly radical changes. At one point in her life she was an actress, journalist, and radio host. However, she left the industry to focus on her struggles of transition. Hailing from Irving, Texas, she was formerly known as Eric Esparza. Initially, Eric came out as a homosexual when he was just 14, but something still didn't feel right. Eric didn't really feel like he was gay, but there was a deeper conflict within his identity, almost as if he was born into the wrong body. Affected by gender dysphoria, Eric made the brave choice to become Stacey Monroe, finally giving a voice to her true identity. Treasuring her experience, Stacey decided to share her story through blogging and more importantly, through a documentary about her experience: "Stacey's story: Living with Gender Dysphoria"; raising awareness on the topic and giving a voice to the many other transgender individuals.
