Siavash Afshar

Siavash Afshar is an Iranian writer-director. Born in Tehran in 1985, he got his high school diploma in cinema in 2002 and started his career as a film review writer and translator in art magazines from 2003. his first short film Radical (2009) never released but later its story turned to his first feature film. his second short film Hasti's Treasure (2010) was a found footage horror/mystery. after that he worked as an editor/assistant editor in couple of projects. From 2013 he started to work on his debut feature film The Cookbook (2018), a mystery/science-fiction, with practically no budget and without a crew. it finished in 2016 but had a hard time to find distribution. it finally premiered in 2018 at the StraightJacket Guerrilla Film Festival and then it released in 2019 in cinemas around Iran. In 2020 Siavash Afshar won the Abbas Kiarostami Award from the twentieth Hafez Ceremony (annual awards) for directing The Cookbook (2018).
