Jamal Washington

Born and raised in Metro Detroit, Jamal Washington's interest in film and television began at the age of 12 when he wrote his very first screenplay, A Step Into Nothing. Later on, he and a few childhood friends started filming small films, skits, and music videos in the neighborhood throughout the next few summers. After taking a brief break in college to focus on Kinesiology, Jamal decided to return to his first love and from that day forward, he never looked back. Throughout his college career, he has completed more than 20 short films, comedy skits, music videos, and documentaries. Following the completion of his Bachelor of Arts degree from Wayne State University, Jamal took a job at a local television station as a Master Control Operator. Unsatisfied with his job and life at the time, he made the ultimate decision to leave and head back to school in pursuit of his Master of Arts degree. It was there he made his biggest project to date, By the Book (2014). Immediately afterward, he dove into other programs in hopes of achieving bigger dreams with a feature film in the future.
