Writer Mark Shainblum was born and raised in Montreal, where in 1984 he and illustrator Gabriel Morrissette co-created the acclaimed independent superhero series Northguard. In the mid-1990's, the team created the parody comic Angloman, which appeared in two bestselling books from Signature Editons (1995 and 1996), and later as a weekly comic strip in the Montreal Gazette (1997-99). He has also written comic books for publishers including First Comics, Broadway Comics and Chapterhouse. In science fiction, Mark has published short fiction in On Spec, Island Dreams: Montreal Writers of the Fantastic and other markets, and he co-edited the Aurora Award-winning Arrowdreams: An Anthology of Alternate Canadas with John Dupuis. Mark also recently co-edited the superhero fiction anthology Superhero Universe: Tesseracts Nineteen, with Claude Lalumière, coming from EDGE Publishing in Spring 2016. In 2002-03, Mark served as president of SF Canada, Canada's national association of science fiction professionals. Mark has appeared as a guest on numerous TV news and current affairs programs and was featured in the 2014 documentary Lost Heroes. He created at least one unproduced radio series for the Canadian Broadcasting Corporation (CBC) and was commissioned to write a screenplay based on Northguard for an independent producer, also as yet unproduced. Mark lives in Ottawa, Ontario with his wife Andrea and his daughter Maya.
