A native New-Yorker (born in Spanish Harlem, raised in the Bronx) Alex Molina has worked in the Film & Television industry for 30+ years. At the age of 14, after seeing the shows of celebrity magicians David Copperfield and Harry Anderson, he became a Stand-Up Comedy Magician & began performing open-mike nites at the local comedy-clubs. Once in college, having met then-student actor Wesley Snipes who came to see one of Alex's shows where he performed several original sketch-comedy characters, Snipes encouraged him to join the university's Acting program - Alex caught the acting bug immediately. Frustrated by the lack of roles for "heavyset Hispanic males" to audition for, Alex was inspired to do his own one-person show when he was amazed by John Leguizamo's very first one-person show "Mambo Mouth." After several callback-auditions for Saturday Night Live, he saw another amazing one-person show - the Broadway debut of Whoopie Goldberg - that inspired him to continue pursuing his dreams. Alex then went on to study filmmaking, working 10+ years for free on-set any film projects he could find, so as to gain invaluable hands-on experience in all aspects of filmmaking. Several personal-life crises followed, through which he ultimately was inspired to form ASAOPE Independent FilmWorks, with the mission to produce raw/gritty films based on true-stories with mass commercial-appeal that expressed the power of the Human Spirit to triumph over the most horrific of experiences. Alex then wrote several scripts over a few years, until he was struck by the initial idea for "Tucht". For the next 8+ years, he was consumed with developing Tucht, then in 2011 began working full-time to make it a reality. As an Actor, Alex believes in the profound Eastern notion that the Performing Arts is a Divine Calling, as very few endeavors can truly "move" an audience like the power of Drama & Music. As a Writer, Alex feels compelled to share true life-affirming stories in a way that will excite the popular commercial audience, thereby affording these much-needed films the "reach" they deserve yet often do not receive. As a Director, Alex's approach is notably "organic" & strives to assist the Actor in profoundly "connecting" with both their characters & the storyline.
