Scott Garthwaite was born in Hartlepool, England, UK to Susan (Harker) and Ian Garthwaite. He is also known by his chef name Punk Chef as he is a world leading celebrity deaf chef, television presenter and social media entertainer, he is also known for his on-screen personality with flamboyant vibrant pink hairstyle working for BSL Zone and BBC cooking programmes. Scott Garthwaite started his first job at Rockliffe Hall in Hurworth, Darlington under a Michelin star chef, while he is still coming towards his final year in his degree at Newcastle College, he began to make cooking videos (Vlogs) in British Sign Language for social media for the deaf community and his passion for cooking was noticed by Flashing Lights, a deaf led production company to create a new Punk Chef TV cooking series for the deaf community, he quickly grab that opportunity. Garthwaite went on to make 9 programmes for BSL Zone which include Punk Chef's Kids Challenge. He said "The programme aims to show the deaf community how easy it is to make simple and tasty meals and that their disability should not be seen as a barrier to learning a new skill, the fact that I'm deaf myself means that I'm able to relate to deaf people on a much more personal level, making it easier to guide them through the cooking process. Chefs like Jamie Oliver, Gordon Ramsay and Heston Blumenthal have been inspiring people to improve their cooking habits for years, so it's great to be able to do the same for the Deaf community". On 3rd December 2015 Garthwaite has made an Christmas appearance on BBC Two's See Hear which feature a Christmas Special with Clive Mason, See Hear is currently the fifth longest-running BBC programme. On November 2017 BSL Zone's Up For It kids programme which is produced by Blue Marlin Television, ITV Signpost and Mutt & Jeff for BSLBT invited Punk Chef to appear on one of their series as he meet a young Deaf chef in a kids TV programme.
