Born and raised in Laredo, Texas, she is one of five children born to Abraham and Minerva Rodriguez. After graduating from Joseph W. Nixon High School in Laredo, Texas in 1988, she attended Laredo Junior College where she obtained her Associate's degree while working part time at Webb County Title & Abstract Company and waitressing on the weekends at a local ice cream shop. She was accepted to the University of North Texas, where she graduated with her Bachelor of Arts Degree in Political Science with a minor in Communication & Public Address. The summer after graduation, she was selected as one of sixteen graduate students nationwide to participate in the prestigious Congressional Hispanic Caucus Institute (CHCI) Fellowship. As a CHCI 1993-94 Public Policy Fellow, Rodriguez lived in Washington, D.C. where she worked as a legislative analyst with the Mexican American Legal Defense and Educational Fund (MALDEF). She also volunteered at a number of organizations in the greater D.C. area. Following her ten month fellowship, she enrolled at the law school at St. Mary's School of Law in San Antonio, Texas, where she eventually earned her law degree and was licensed to practice law in 1997. She worked briefly in the areas of Social Security and Worker's Compensation before joining Bexar County as Assistant District Attorney. She spent 10 years at the D.A.'s office, where she prosecuted numerous cases ranging from misdemeanor DWIs to felony murders. She was assigned to the trial division for nine of the ten years, spending her last year in the Family Justice Division, where she handled crimes against children. After leaving the District Attorney's office, she was hired as the Chief Administrator for the County Court at Law Judges where she was responsible for an over $7 million dollar budget, all projects involving the 15 County Courts, in addition to the Jail Court and Impact Courts. She represented the County Court Judges at Commissioner's Court and was responsible for monitoring and presenting legislation on behalf of the County Courts. She was elected to the bench as Judge of Bexar County Court at Law No. 8 in November of 2010 and began her tenure on January 1, 2011. She is the mother of two children, Alina and Aiden.
