Deborah Hu was born at Wuhan. She graduated from Tongji Medical University in 1987. After achieving her Bachelors of medicine from medical university in 1987, and working as an assistant professor, she found her soul dry. In early 1993 she participated in a documentary making project and experienced the joy of making movies besides academic life. Since then, making movies has become part of her life. Besides a passion to help to relieve human suffering and pain, Deborah has discovered a great delight in combining visual art and music together to make a film. She took film studies seriously in her spare time from college and worked with experienced filmmakers. In 2012, she decided to fulfill her passion of story telling. She wrote and directed her first film. She founded Dragon Dance Institute. In 2013, Her script "Hockey Sole" won Top 10 in China-Canada Gateway script competition in Whistler Film Festival.
