David LaGrange was born and raised in Toledo, OH. Although he was only an average student in both elementary school and high school, he excelled in baseball and football. In 1972, at the age of 17, he enlisted in the U.S. Coast Guard. He served 8 years on active duty as an aircraft electrician and search and rescue helicopter crewman. During his Coast Guard service, he took part in a number of search and rescue missions along the Atlantic coast and in the Great Lakes. He also deployed to Antarctica for two duty tours, both nearly 6 months in length. After his Honorable Discharge from the Coast Guard in 1980, David began a career as a police officer. He served with the Savannah, GA Police Department from 1981 until he retired in November of 2001 at the rank of Captain. Upon retirement from the Savannah Police Department, David was promoted to the rank of Major-Retired, in recognition of his years of service. In November of 2001, David was appointed to the position of Chief of Police for the City of Tiffin, OH. He served in that capacity until January of 2012 when he was appointed to the position of Chief of Police for the City of Waterville, OH He retired from that position in August of 2019. David had his first exposure to acting in 1987, when he appeared as an extra in an episode of the HBO series, Vietnam War Story, directed by Ray Danton. He worked as an extra again in 1994, this time in the movie, Forrest Gump. But his scene in that movie did not appear in the final version of the film. David has done frequent live, on-camera interviews for TV news stories related to his law enforcement duties. In 2011, he also gained experience as a sports broadcaster, airing high school football games on WTSC Radio in Tiffin, OH. He is the author of "Savannah Police: Celebrating 200 Years of Service" (Turner Publishing, 2000)(ISBN 13:9781563117046). In the Spring of 2014, David began attending acting workshops in Toledo. In July of 2014, he traveled to New York to compete at IMTA, taking awards in every category in which he performed. He also took home an award for Adult Male Actor of the Year category, which earned him a management contract with a New York agency. In 2015, he was cast as Det. Sam Burke in a made for a cable TV series based on the Spawn comic books. However, the series never went into production. David has appeared in both print and TV ads, and is active in local community theater in the Toledo area.
