Ruth Reitan is a screenwriter, producer, educator, and film curator. She is co-founder and owner of Florestania Films, S.R.L., in the Dominican Republic along with Arturo Marcos Merelo. Their first feature film and tv show are in development in the DR and Mexico. Her screenplays and short films have been programmed in over 30 festivals and competitions around the world and have won several awards, including (for writing) at the Oaxaca Film Festival in Mexico, Beverly Hills International FF, Manhattan Short FF Screenplay Competition, Mid-Atlantic Black FF, Wood's Hole FF on Cape Cod, the L.A. Neo Noir Novel, Film, & Script Festival, and International Talentscout & WriteMovies Writing Contest; and (for films) the BLOW-UP Chicago International Arthouse Festival, Barcelona Erotic&Bizarre FF, Underground Transterritorial FF in Buenos Aires, Great Lakes International Script Competition, and the U. Film and Video Association-Minneapolis College of Art & Design Exhibition. Reitan has taught in the departments of Cinema, International Studies, and Women & Gender Studies at the University of Miami and FilmNorth in Minneapolis. She earned her MFA in Motion Pictures from the University of Miami and PhD In International Relations from the American University School of International Service in Washington, DC. Other film-related experience includes videographer and film editor with Wine Spectator and Cigar Aficionado magazines in Manhattan; founder, director, and film curator of the Bogart Film Noir Shorts Competition in affiliation with the Humphrey Bogart Film Festival in Key Largo; shorts and Florida features curator with the Key West Film Festival; and seasonal film lecturer at the Ocean Reef Film Society's Food & Film series in Key Largo.
