Sophie McIntosh was born and raised in Auckland, New Zealand. She began dancing at the age of three and trained in classical ballet, contemporary dance and jazz throughout her childhood, performing and competing both nationally and internationally. In 2012 she was awarded 4th place at the National Young Performer of the Year Award, and was a semi-finalist at the Genee International Ballet Competition (now the Margot Fonteyn International Ballet Competition). After graduating from the Philippa Campbell School of Ballet in 2013, Sophie received a full scholarship to spend the summer at the Joffrey Ballet School in Manhattan, New York where she was later offered a place as a full-time classical student. In her final year of high school however, Sophie landed the role of Honour Aleni on the much loved New Zealand series Shortland Street (1992), and fell in love with film and television. Since, she has split her time between acting and dancing professionally, and completing a masters degree in politics at the University of Auckland.
