Matthew N. Helm was born on September 10, 1978 in San Francisco, California. His parents are Carole Colburn and the late Norman Helm, both from Southern California. Matthew has a twin sister and a younger brother and he is considered the eldest sibling in the group. After his birth, Matthew's family lived in Long Beach, California for several years prior to moving to Eureka, California. Matthew's family has an extensive history in the performing arts. His grandmother and grandfather were both stage actors in both local and regional theaters. His father, Norman, also performed in several stage performances, notably "The Wizard of Oz", "The Princess and the Pea", and "The Music Man." Growing up around this theatrical family gave Matthew an interest in the performing arts. Matthew began his acting career in a local commercial in mid-1998. He was one of two lead actors for a used car dealership's advertisement. This was his first on-air speaking role. From there, Matthew took a hiatus from his acting career until 2014. In February of that year, Matthew filmed with the documentary crew of Animal Planet's "Finding Bigfoot." He became a focal point on the episode titled "Bobo's Backyard" where the main cast members interviewed him and set up a re-creation of the content of Matthew's story. The episode became one of the most popular in the series. Matthew currently (as of 2014) resides in Humboldt County with his wife, Audrey, and their two dogs
