Masaru Sato is an author and ex-chief analyst at the Foreign Ministry of Japan. Born in 1960 in Tokyo. After graduating from the theology department of Doshisha University (Kyoto) in 1980, and completing post-graduate studies, he was hired by the Ministry of Foreign Affairs of Japan in 1985. At first, he worked at the Embassy of Japan in the UK, then at the Embassy of Japan in the Soviet Union. From 1995 to 2002, he worked as chief analyst at the Foreign Ministry of Japan. Now, he mainly works for writing and teaching on intelligence and international issues in Japan.
