Tony "Bomber" Bellew, so-called because of his aggressive power punching, is an English former professional boxer and a former 3-time ABA heavyweight champion from Liverpool, England. Born in 1982, the Merseysider enjoyed a 40-7 amateur career before turning professional in October 2007. He trained out of the Rotunda gym in Liverpool and was promoted by Eddie Hearn of Matchroom Sport. A former Commonwealth light-heavyweight champion, Tony has a professional record of 30 wins, 20 by KO/TKO, 3 losses and 1 draw. He also held the WBC Intercontinental belt after stopping Colombian Edison Miranda in the 9th round at London's Alexandra Palace in September 2012. Bellew is an avid supporter of Everton F.C. and often fought in blue boxing trunks adorned with the club's badge and also used the theme tune from Z Cars (1962) as his ring-walk music, the same song that Everton players walk onto the pitch to during every home game. In 2016, Tony headlined a show at the team's stadium, Goodison Park, as he claimed his greatest victory by winning the vacant WBC cruiserweight world title against Ilunga Makabu. Following his retirement from boxing, Tony continues to be involved in the sport as an analyst and commentator for DAZN Boxing (2015), having previously worked in a similar role for Sky Sports World Championship Boxing (1989).
