Niels Hanrath was born on the 7th of January 1992 in Middlesbrough, England. Having Dutch parents meant that he only learned English when he attended Canterbury Steiner School and now speaks both English and Dutch fluently. Niels was very dramatic as a child and loved listening to stories and playing all the lead roles in the various plays he did throughout his time at school including the lead 'Jean Valjean' in 'Les Miserables', but didn't pursue formal training opting instead to read Psychology and Business at university. As a young adult, Niels moved to London where he found himself cast as the lead in the feature 'Men Were Dandies & Women Darlings', two weeks later, without a days acting training he was on set for his first day of the shoot and realized that this is what he was meant for. He took weekly classes at a studio AMAW in London where he learned more about his art and craft. He went on to star in a collection of short films, gathering valuable experience before flying off to Los Angeles where he was cast as a leading man Patrick in the production 'Phonebook'. On his return Niels went for an audition for 'Our Little Haven' and there he met Ben Rider a director. The two enjoyed working with each other and Niels appeared in Ben's adaptation of Shakespeare's Midsummer Nights Dream, 'More Strange Than True'. Moving to Vancouver gave Niels a refreshed perspective of his art and he met Drew Sicard, together they rewrote a short film ' Voices' Niels had written years ago and worked tirelessly to push it through production starting a production company to further this dynamic and creative relationship they had found.
