Guy was born in Berkeley, Calif. He attended Saint Joseph's Catholic school in Berkeley, California and then in 1954 moved to San Jose, California. His parents, Dr. Victor Apollo and his wife Sarah saw Guy's singing talent at an early age and encouraged him in every way. Guy graduated Peter Burnett Jr. High and then went to San Jose High School where he graduated from in 1963. While in high school, Guy studied voice in San Francisco with Bill Stoker, Johnny Mathis' vocal coach and was later discovered and signed to a recording contract by Walter Stone of Loadstone Records in San Francisco. His first recording was "Give Me Time" and "Ain't Got A Nickel". After graduation Guy moved to Los Angeles and entered a talent contest sponsored by Danny Thomas in association with KFWB radio. There was a winner from the East Coast, the Midwest and Guy became the winner of the West Coast. Guy than had to audition for Danny Thomas himself and for George Schlatter. Guy won the contest and appeared on the Danny Thomas Special April 23, 1965 on NBC. After his appearance on the show, Guy was signed to a recording contract by Frank DeVol to ABC Paramount Records. Guy worked with Frank for months and was asked to record the theme song from the motion picture "Cat Ballou" entitled, "They Can't Make Her Cry" and also record "The Things We Did Last Summer". Guy was part of the "Shindig '65" road tour and performed with "The Righteous Brothers", "Dick and DeeDee", "Cannibal and the Headhunters" ,"Paul Petersen" and "Ginger Blake". Over the years Guy has sung at many clubs,like The Ye Little Club in Beverly Hills and The Scene and Dino's Lodge on the Sunset Strip. In 1966 Guy was signed to a new label called Hiback Records where he worked with well known Engineer and Producers, John Guess, Bill St. Pierre and Gerry Hibbs on the release of "Big Man In Town" and "Toy Soldier". Later that year followed by "The Victim" and "My World Is You". In the late 1960's Guy was introduced to a very talented singer songwriter by the name of Peter Lewis. Guy and Peter worked for months on the formation of a new group and became close friends. The original name for the group was "Reign Beau". After a while Guy realized a rock group wasn't what he really wanted and left the group still remaining friends with Peter. Later that group was to become "Moby Grape" and become highly successful. As Guy said, "Peter just needed the right blend of people to make it be a success."
