Jonathan Rome is a Korean-American filmmaker whose resume spans from being an award-winning director (Stupidly Happy (2018) and Here Lies Lauren (2020)), poignant screenwriter, dutiful first assistant director (Scout's Honour), and efficient editor. Rome continues to grow in recognition, skill, and storytelling while remaining true to his craft's mission statement and purpose: telling stories that can help one person in the audience feel less alone. Rome formed this mission statement and career path at the age of 12 and hasn't slowed down since. He strives to explore the fascinating aspects of humanity and philosophy using magical realism to create ethereal scenarios that underscore themes in his creative work (narrative, documentary, and animation). He also makes it a point to promote diversity in media as much as possible, not only as a filmmaker but also as a journalist with "GeeksOfColor" and co-host of "The First Few Podcast" amplify BIPOC voices. As his rise continues, Rome is working on several projects that'll challenge audiences as much as they challenge his own skills and comforts as a creator. His next project, Cardboard Castles, will go into production sometime in 2021, with at least two projects following it (one long-form live-action and the other utilizing stop-motion animation). He will also be working on starting up a production company with his partner and friend, Felix Niklas Malms, that would utilize other filmmakers' skills to tell stories with the same mission statements that Rome has, allowing Rome to take on a Producing role in the years to come.
