Bishop Blay (b.1980, Liberia) first acted in improvised street-dramas in a refugee camp in Ghana, where he lived in exile following the outbreak of the Liberia Civil War. After the war, he brought his craft back to Liberia, where he acted in numerous local West African film and theater productions. Most recently, he made his international feature debut in Takeshi Fukunaga's Out of My Hand (2015), which premiered at the Berlin International Film Festival, won the top prize U.S Fiction Award at the Los Angeles Film Festival and nominated for John Cassavetes Independent Spirit Award. Blay's performance brought a "naturalism and grounded soulfulness [LA Times]." He's presently based in New York City.
