Steven Grossman was born January 3, 1957, in Temple, Texas to Dr. Alex and Joan Grossman. He has 2 sisters and 1 brother. His father was an MD working for the Veterans Hospital in Temple. When he was age 7 they moved to West Hartford, Connecticut for 4 years and then to St. Petersburg, Florida where he started 6th grade. He graduated Boca Ciega High School in 1975. Through out High School he became involved in many sports like Baseball, Water Skiing, Scuba Diving, Motocross racing and Fishing. He knew his future was going to involve the ocean. In 1976 he tried to enlist in the Navy and then the Army to become a SEAL diver, but the recruiter said his eye sight wasn't good enough. He enlisted in the USCG (United States Coast Guard). Steven served on the WHEC Chase 718 and a couple small boat stations in Maine where he qualified as a Search and Rescue Coxswain, Rescue Swimmer and Boarding Officer, and then Base San Juan, Puerto Rico where he received TACLET (Tactical Law Enforcement Team) training. In 1982 he joined the Merchant Marines working on an Ocean Tug and Barge and got an Unlimited AB ticket and then a 1600 Ton Mates License. In 1984 he bought and lived on a 34' Sloop and sailed solo up and down the Florida west and east coast with a few trips to the Bahamas on his off the tug boat time. In 1985 he started college in Daytona Bch. and studied Professional Photography for only 3 semesters. During this time he had joined the Florida Army National Guard and was a Spec 4, Radioman. He went back in the Coast Guard for 3 more years and was stationed in West Palm Beach. He married in 1988 and has one daughter. In 1991 he went back in the Merchant Marines with the same company for a few years then filed for divorce taking sole custody of his daughter. Unable to go to sea for a living he then moved to Hawaii with his daughter and became a Police Officer. Unhappy with the pay and budget cuts preventing advancement, he went back in the Merchant Marines working as an civilian Engineer on a 240' Vessel which was under contract with Naval Special Warfare which trained and worked ops with Navy SEAL Teams and submarines in Pearl Hbr. Hawaii, Seattle, Washington, Amphibious Little Creek, Virginia and Groton, CT. After testing again he got his Unlimited AB ticket again and 1600 Ton Mates license. Four years later he requesting to work in the Gulf of Mexico in the oilfield and the moved to Louisiana in 2005. Here he tested and got his Masters license and was working 190', 240', and 280' Supply ships and Frac Vessels. In March 2010 he was diagnosed with a debilitating disease which restricted him from working on any commercial vessel. Heavy depression set in and a heart attack soon followed. After reading about all the movies they were filming in Louisiana he decided he wanted to be an "extra" in a movie, something which he never thought about or had an interest in. So he signed up with a casting agency and was called a couple months later to be an extra in "Geostorm". Four months later he was called to be an extra in "Free State of Jones". After that he took more interest in films and has been in 6 movies and 6 television series being featured a couple times and a couple reoccurring roles. Despite his disability he loves to be active and enjoys traveling with his Golden Retriever. Canoeing, fishing and riding his Harley Davidson, music festivals are some of his passions. Acting classes are in the future and he hopes to become a principle actor someday. His rustic "Wildman" appearance (long hair and beard) has landed most of the roles he's done so far. Meeting lots of people, famous and not so famous are what he enjoys most in the film industry. Many of those people have become good friends.
