Richard Roszko was born on an US Naval Base in Yokosuka and was raised in Kamakura, Japan. Here, his dad introduced him to the world of computer science, while his mother showed him the passionate yet precision work of Ikebana flower arranging. These gave him a foundation for detailed artwork. Bilingual, Richard grew up on an eclectic mix of Japanese anime, monster movies, and American TV dubbed in Japanese. After moving to the States when he was sixteen, Richard got a job in a multiplex theater where he first experienced pre-release screenings and first run movies. He was instantly hooked. In college, he founded a student organization that screened movies using dual 16mm projectors with a homemade change over system he designed. Richard graduated from the University of Illinois at Urbana-Champaign with a Bachelor of Science in Computer Engineering. Always a passionate sci-fi fan, he collected films and books in the genre. He loved reading Heinlein, Asimov, Clarke, Herbert, and others. On the screen, he was particularly fond of Alien, Contact, Red Dwarf, and all the Doctor Who series. He directed and edited training videos at work. Next he wrote and directed his first short film, Cliché. Then wrote a sci-fi adventure comic book mini-series Dreadnought: Invasion Six. It was accepted and distributed by Diamond Comic Distributors. Richard was welcomed as an indie publisher at the San Diego Comic-Con. Later, the series was released as a web comic and it quickly climbed to the Top Ten. Richard then began work on All Your Base: Last of Last, a 3D animated sci-fi comedy mock trailer short film based on the arcade game "Zero Wing". It was accepted at Gencon, the largest gaming convention in the US, where audiences ate it up. It was at seven other film festivals as well as one day theatrical run. Richard Roszko is a rare combination of artist and engineer, weaving practical logic throughout his stories and films, giving his lyrical creations a strong basis in fact. Together, these attributes create fascinating stories which draw the audience in and keep them riveted until the end.
