Tawfik Alzaidi

Alzaidi was never formally educated in filmmaking but he dedicatedly studied the masters of cinema, watching and reading on his own. He says that to be a film director one must understand the human soul, so he invested all his time to achieve that. Alzaidi began directing his own films in 2006 and is considered a leading and influential member of the new cinema wave in Saudi Arabia. His first short film “Perfect Crime” won best editing in the Jeddah Film Festival in 2007 and his film “The Silence” won the Gulf Short Film Award in the Muscat International Film Festival 2009. In 2015 he started working on the script of “Norah”, premiering at Cannes Film Festival 77º in the Un Certain Regard section.
