Saila Kariat

Saila Kariat is a filmmaker and entrepreneur with a diverse background. She started her career as an engineer - after obtaining her Ph.D. in electrical engineering, Saila worked as a research member and product manager at IBM, and in a start-up company as director of marketing. She subsequently pursued her lifelong dream of becoming a filmmaker by studying film at San Jose State University, while raising two girls and owning a construction company. She wrote and directed several short films and her debut feature "The Valley", which tells the story of a successful Indian American entrepreneur seeking answers after the suicide of his daughter. The Valley was in numerous film festivals and won best feature film in five festivals. Saila has completed the screenplays "Gods and Demons", and "Love in the Time of Corona", and is working on her next feature narrative screenplay "I Was Never Awake", which she will produce and direct.
