Simon became interested in parapsychology after a childhood sleep-related experience with what at the time he thought was an apparition of a huge black dog-like creature. He obtained a Bachelor of Science degree in Psychology from the University of Portsmouth in 1992, a Master of Science degree in Occupational Psychology from the University of Sheffield in 1993 and gained a Phd in Psychology from the University of Edinburgh in 2001. In December 2002 he completed a Postgraduate Certificate of Teaching in Higher Education. Since 1998 Simon has been Senior Lecturer in Psychology at University College Northampton. He has a particular interest in anomalous sleep-related experiences, particularly those occurring in the hypnagogic/hypnopompic states. He has written a number of books and papers on Parapsychology, ESP and the tradition of black-dog apparitions.
