Sebastian Pena Escobar (Asuncion, 1973). Producer, writer and independent researcher. He studied Economics in Paraguay and got a Master in Business Administration from The University of Kansas. During the last decade, he developed, produced and managed several cultural ventures and projects. From Pomelo Editorial he led the creation of magazines, books, and audiovisual content. From El Ojo Salvaje (EOS), he has been organizing the Photography Month in Paraguay since 2007. He has published essays, prose, and poetry as well as numerous op-eds, articles, and columns in local magazines. As a producer in Puatarara Films S.A, he has co-produced the documentary-film Chicas Nuevas 24 Horas (Spain, 2015) about global human trafficking (nominated Best Documentary, Goya Awards, Spain 2016). He has also co-produced the feature film Guarani (Argentina, 2015), winner of Best Foreign Film (Festival do Gramado, Brasil, 2016) and Vision Europea Award at Ventana Sur (Buenos Aires, 2014). From La Babosa Cine, he produced The Heiresses, from Marcelo Martinessi (Berlinale Competition 2018, double Silver Bear and Fispresci winner). He was also the executive producer and director of production. In 2015 he participated in Framework, Torino Film Lab (2015) where The Heiresses won a Production Award. In 2017 he participated in Interdoc Documentary Masterclasses (Serbia). Attended Doc Montevideo 2017, Dok Leipzig 2017 and Documenta Madrid 2018. Sebastian is currently developing a creative documentary and setting up a local distributing strategy for films produced and co-produced in Paraguay.
