Lujain Jo is an Iraqi filmmaker, activist, video-journalist and performance artist with over ten years of diverse media experience. Her first feature film, Rahhala, is an experimental documentary made up of four video-essays filmed across 10 cities on jellyfish, marine life, animals, and robots and artificial intelligence. In addition, she produced a multi-award winning short-film Al Hmar, set in 500 B.C. Phoenicia. As part of her strong interest in the manifestations of movement in life, her work included collaborations with musicians and dancers such as Michaela DePrince and Khansa. She has also worked with multiple media platforms and organizations from Megaphone News and Anti-Racism-Movement to Khateera and Amnesty International -- on issues related to social movements, migrant workers, police brutality, and feminism. Her daily documentation of Lebanon's uprisings was featured on international media platforms such as BBC, Aljazeera, Arte and Vice. When not behind a camera or a screen, Lujain explores her music and dancing and curates antique jewelry and clothes.
