Aleksandr Syman was born on 26 July 1977 in Kopyl, Belarus. He is a retired biathlete. Syman's first year in biathlon was 1991 and he made his World Cup debut in 1999. He participated in three Olympic Games - in 2002, 2006 and 2010. His best result from all the Games was 8th place with the relay team in 2002 in Salt Lake City. His best individual result was 20th in the 10 km sprint event in 2010 in Vancouver. Syman achieved his one and only World Cup victory in 2004-2005 in Pokljuka. He won the 10 km sprint. His other best individual career result was a 3rd place in the sprint discipline again in Turin in 2004-2005. He has 6 career podiums with the relay team. They won in Ruhpolding in 2003-2004, twice came 2nd in Pokljuka in 2001-2002 and in Hochfilzen in 2003-2004 and three time 3rd in Ruhpolding in 2000-2001, in Hochfilzen and in Lahti in 2001-2002. Aleksandr Syman participated in a total of 7 World Championships over the years. He won his only one silver medal in the relay in 2001 in Pokljuka. His best individual results from all World Championships is 21st place in the 20 km Individual in 2008 in Östersund. His best overall career finish is 35th in the 2004-2005 season. Syman announced his retirement after the 2010 Olympic Games in Vancouver.
