René Cattarinussi was born on 12 April 1972 in Tolmezzo, Italy. He is a retired biathlete. Cattarinussi made his World Cup debut on 9 December 1993. In 1995 he came 2nd in the sprint at the Italian Championships of biathlon. Cattarinussi participated in 8 World Championships from 1995 until 2003 during his career. He won a total of 6 medals - 2 silver in the 10 km sprint and 4 bronze (2 in the sprint and 2 in the relay). He also took part in two Winter Olympic Games in 1998 in Nagano and in 2002 in Salt Lake City. Unfortunately Cattarinussi didn't win anything from both Games. His best result was 9th place in the relay in 1998 in Nagano. As for his personal best performance it was 20th position in the pursuit in 2002 in Salt Lake City. On a World Cup level, Cattarinussi achieved two victories. On 22 January 1999 he won the 10 km sprint in Antholz-Anterselva. And one year later, on 19 March 2000 won the 15 km mass start in Khanty-Mansiysk. His best overall finish is 8th in the 1996-1997 season. Cattarinussi has been 8 times the National Champion in the sprint and pursuit at the Italian Championships from 1997 until 2003. He ended his career after the 2002-2003 season.
