WJ Carter

Edited 22/10/2020 Born in East London, but growing up in the Midlands, WJ carter is best known for his work as Director of the feature film Knights of Newgate (2021). WJ left school at sixteen to work in the family roofing and property development business. A keen artist, sculptor and musician, in his early twenties he became a full time songwriter and musician. After a few years on the road WJ went to work at CAV studios in 1994, where he worked as engineer and general manager. CAV studios branched out into 3D graphics and pop video production, where WJ discovered his passion for CG imagery, his work featuring in magazines 'Total Film' and 'CG Artist'. After years of freelancing as a CG Generalist in the film & game industries, WJ went into business with his father Sidney Carter to make the feature Knights of Newgate (2021). The ambitious project was shot entirely on green-screen with a massive 1253 visual effects shots. Despite both WJ and his father throwing everything they had into the production, everything that could go wrong on the picture went wrong. After a disastrous computer problem left the production in chaos in 2012, the pair had to look for further funding to finish. Despite early interest from major players, door after door eventually either closed slowly or was slammed in their faces . Nevertheless, the pair never gave up, and after starting over, with a completely new visual effects pipeline in 2016, they eventually finished film in 2020.
