Selina Gasparin was born on 3 April 1984 in Samedan, Switzerland. Her first year in the sport was 2004 and she made her World Cup debut in 2005. Gasparin participated in three World Championships in 2007, 2008 and 2009 before she managed a Top 10 finish in the World Cup tour, which was a 5th place in the 15 km Individual in Antholz-Anterselva. From those three World Championships the best position Gasparin ever made was 44th in the Individual in 2007. Her first Olympic Games were those in 2010 in Vancouver. She placed 40th in the Individual, 56th in the sprint and 48th in the pursuit. But Gasparin wasn't discouraged. She showed progress at the 2011 World Championship in Khanty-Mansiysk. Placed 13th in the Individual, 15th in the relay and not so good 55th in the sprint. During the 2012-2013 season Gasparin achieved a 4th place in the first World Cup race - the Individual in Östersund. Later she came 6th in the mass start in Khanty-Mansiysk. The world Championships in Ruhpolding in 2012 weren't successful. Gasparin was 51st in the Individual, 12th in the sprint, 13th in the pursuit and 26th in he mass start. However the whole picture changed in 2013-2014. Gasparin made her first World Cup victories in the sprints in Hochfilzen and then in Annecy Le Grand-Bornand. She was also 5th in the sprint in Kontiolahti and 6th in the pursuit in Annecy. But the highlight in her career was still yet to come. That season was an Olympic one. Gasparin won the Olympic silver in the Individual event in Sochi in February 2014. She finished 13th in the sprint, 15th in the pursuit and 9th in both the mass start and relay. Selina Gasparin finished the season at number 11 in the overall. In June 2014 Seina Gasparin married the Russian cross-country skier and bronze medalist from Sochi, Ilia Chernousov. In September 2014 she announced her pregnancy and would miss the entire 2014-2015 season. During the 2015-2016, after becoming a mother, Gasparin returned to the World Cup. She finished 2nd in the pursuit in Antholz-Anterselva, 5th in the Individual in Ruhpolding and 6th in the sprint in Presque Isle. At the 2016 World Championships in Holmenkollen, Gasparin was 17th in the Individual, 67th in the sprint and 16th in the relay. The season concluded at number 24 in the overall. Gasparin is motivated and ambitious enough to show much more of her qualities as a Top biathlete, one of the best. She has already given a glimpse of her potential. No doubt the upcoming seasons and Olympic Games will bring her much medals, podiums and glory.
