Karmyn Jones

Karmyn Jones is named after the acclaimed musical production, "Carmen Jones", as Karmyn's mother, Barbara, was impressed with the performance of Dorothy Dandridge and the all African American cast. Born in 1959, in Detroit, Michigan, Karmyn is the oldest of 4 children born to David--a minister and educator--and their mother, Barbara (née, Brooks) whose career included administrative positions in the U.S. Army (civilian), hospitals, and with NASA on the Redstone Arsenal, Bendix Automotive, and Whirlpool Corporations. Karmyn has a talent for retelling stories of antiquity. Something of old is told in a new way with amalgamations of real people based on actual events. Karmyn reshapes the ancient storylines, re-staged in contemporary settings. Through her films, viewers overcome their own life challenges by connecting with any number of Biblical characters who were living, breathing examples worthy of imitation. Growing up in the Midwest, television viewing-as a platform to gain perspectives of the world, gather breaking news, and see expressions of Black experiences, was part of Karmyn's family culture. As a filmmaker, Karmyn places a strong emphasis on the importance of entertainment as a platform to serve as a cultural, spiritual, and educational catalyst for change. To guarantee forward motion, Karmyn self-finances her films for encouraging sustainable budgets. After an illustrious career as a clinical research scientist and medical writer, Karmyn Jones is experiencing the rewards of screenwriting, producing, and collaborating with other filmmakers. Her robust education in science, medicine, history, and anthropology provide her storytelling with smart attributes that inform her creative writing.
