Raymund Ribay Gutierrez

Raymund Ribay Gutierrez is an internationally acclaimed award-winning Filipino director and screenwriter. Despite graduating with a Bachelor's Degree in Multimedia Arts, he still pursued a career in filmmaking by joining a workshop which gave him an opportunity to work with the award-winning director, Brillante Ma Mendoza. He was trained well throughout of his career by Brillante and became his protege. As a screenwriter, he is guided by the founder and teacher of the "Found Story", Armando Bing Lao. It is a unique storytelling theory that is applied in both his and Brillante's films. Gutierrez's first short film was "IMAGO" (2016), which received a nomination for the Palme d'Or Best Short Film in Cannes (2016) and wins such as Best Short Cuts in Toronto International Film Festival (2016), Best Short Film Award in Stockholm International Film Festival (2016), Best Short Film in London Short Film Festival (2017), and Best Film in Minimalen Short Film Festival (2018). In 2018, his second short film, "JUDGEMENT", received again a nomination for the Palme d'Or Best Short Film in Cannes (2018). Gutierrez, age 25, is the first Filipino director to compete for the Palme d'Or twice in the short film category. His debut feature "VERDICT" won the Orizzonti Special Jury Prize at the 76th Venice International Film Festival.
