Broadcast writer-director Sean Grieve was born on March 24, 1996, and grew up on the Isle of Skye, Scotland. From infancy, Sean, his brother, and sister watched countless films and, at 11 years old, Sean took to studying and practicing photography. He developed an interest in acting and studied it throughout his time at Portree High School. An early model DSLR gave him the means to segue to experimenting with short films, and his drama teacher was a constant inspiration for directing well. After high school, Screen Academy Scotland offered him an unconditional place to study filmmaking in Edinburgh. In recognition of his verve, Sean was awarded a one-year scholarship to study filmmaking in New York City and, during his four year degree, he wrote and directed a slate of short films between the UK and US. He graduated from Screen Academy Scotland with a Bachelors (Honours) degree in filmmaking, with a specialisation in writing-directing. On the night of his graduation screening, Sean decided to go beyond short films by challenging himself to make a long-form project. Discover Scotland: North Coast 500 (2020) was the result. Sean worked as a delivery cyclist and developed his passion project over the course of a year. He researched, wrote, produced, directed, edited, and financed the project to challenge himself and to learn more about how a larger production works. The project was latterly acquired and broadcast by STV - setting a milestone for the first time the broadcaster's content department acquired material external to their production team. Afterwards, Sean was awarded the opportunity to work with producer Gareth Ellis-Unwin through the ScreenSkills mentorship programme and, during this time, he developed a feature length comedy script. Sean lives in Edinburgh, Scotland.
