Xochi was born in Los Angeles, California. Her mother, Ginger Sugar Blymyer was a movie hairstylist spending 17 years as Natalie Woods hairdresser. Her step dad was Pat Blymyer who was a gaffer for over 40 years. As a family they traveled the world depending on which parent had a feature on location. Xochi has other family members in the business. Bill Bates and JB Bates, her biological dad and step mother, were a prop team, working on many television shows. She also has two brothers who are both prop masters, Eric Bate and Mychael Bates. Years ago, her sister, Laurie Bates, was a stand in and extra on many shows, most notably "Mash" where you will find her playing the part of Nurse Laurie. Xochi attended the University of New Hampshire and graduated with a Mathematic degree. Her first job was working at the Better Business Bureau of Boston and after two years, quit and headed back to Hollywood, California. She found her first job with her dad, Pat, as a stand in on a couple of movies until she was hired on "Red Heat" as a production assistant because of her computer skills. This first movie turned into a string of big action features and finally she was able to join the Directors Guild of America in 1991. Her first movie in the DGA was Terminator 2: Judgment Day. Xochi has worked her way up through the ranks of the Assistant Director department working on many features and television shows. In recent years, she worked on two seasons of "The Fosters" and various episodes of "Bones" and two seasons on "Marvel's Agents of Shield". There are also features in development that Xochi is attached as producer. In 2017, Xochi worked on the first season of the new NBC Comedy "A.P. BIO". Presently, in 2018, Xochi is continuing her work on Producing and Directing the adventure documentary titled "Red Dog & Bates". After traveling extensively in Mexico, filming for the documentary, Xochi has learned more about the amazing people of Mexico and hopes this movie will show the wonderful adventure of walking through Mexico in 1958 paralleled with present day Mexico.
