"My quest is always the same: to tell something that leaves a lasting impression on the viewer". Icíar Bollaín began her career as an actress at the age of 15 and left Fine Arts to devote herself to cinema, she considers it a potent tool to achieve social transformation and the creation of a more egalitarian society. She won awards such as Best Spanish Actress and the Ojo Crítico II Milenio in the 90s. Among her outstanding films as an actress are El Sur (Víctor Erice, 1983), Malaventura (Manuel Gutiérrez Aragón, 1989), Sublet (Chus Gutiérrez, 1991), and Tierra y Libertad (Ken Loach, 1994). In 1991, she founded Producciones La Iguana with Santiago García de Leániz and Gonzalo Tapia. As a director and screenwriter, her first feature film was Hola, ¿estás sola? (1995), which received awards at the Seminci and a Goya nomination. Flores de otro Mundo (1999) won Best Film at the Critics' Week at Cannes, and Te doy mis ojos (2003) won seven Goyas, including Best Film and Direction. Through this title, she introduced painting to enrich the mise-en-scene and the story itself, analyzing how the narrative function is influenced by the presence of these works in cinematography. She has also directed short films such as Baja, corazón (1993) and Amores que matan (2000).
