Charles W. Bowser was one of the top stage comedians of the late 1800's and early 1900's. Born in Louisville, Kentucky to John W. Bowser and Susan Hyatt in 1848, Charles would discover his love of acting when performing locally in his early 20's. His big break came when he was cast as Major Garroway Bang in the hit play "Hobbies" with the traveling troupe of the Nat Goodwin Comedy Company. From there, Charles spent the next 3 decades engaged in the traveling show. He was a noted comedian and in high demand. By the early 1900's, managers began casting Charles as the father figure. His transition to silent film was natural. Charles Bowser passed away in New York City on March 17, 1917 and is buried in the Cave Hill Cemetery in his hometown of Louisville.
