Filmmaker and writer Steve Cubine is best known as the writer/producer of the 2018 Primetime Emmy Award-winning series, Break A Hip. Break A Hip is a funny, irreverent, short-form series starring Emmy-winner Christina Pickles as a feisty, cranky, failed actress who lives a lonely life in Hollywood until she hires a somewhat clueless, struggling actor as her errand boy. The two forge an unlikely friendship which leads to outrageous adventures and misadventures. The series also features hilarious turns by Allison Janney, Octavia Spencer, Jim Rash, Peri Gilpin, Priscilla Barnes, Carole Cook, and Lawrence Pressman. Cubine started his career working in physical production on TV series such as Joss Whedon's Angel and Firefly as well as several Tyler Perry movies in Atlanta (Why Did I Get Married, Meet The Browns, The Family That Preys) before turning his talents to writing and producing. Cubine is in post-production on the comic series The Disappointments, an LGBTQIA-themed series about a tight-knit group of gay men in their 50s who try to make the rest of their time on earth matter after they are forced to take stock of their lives after the suicide of one of their own. Their efforts to make an impact and be relevant often leads to funny, awkward, poignant, and often humiliating results. With over 15 years of producing experience, Cubine's feature film highlights include the cult classic Sordid Lives, a comedy written and directed by renowned playwright Del Shores and starring Bonnie Bedelia, Beau Bridges, Delta Burke, and Olivia Newton-John, Brave New Jersey, starring Tony Hale and Anna Camp, Lucky, starring Colin Hanks, Ari Graynor, Jeffrey Tambor and Ann-Margret and Our Very Own, written and directed by Cameron Watson. Our Very Own, which stars Allison Janney, Cheryl Hines, Jason Ritter, and Keith Carradine, debuted at the LA Film Festival and went on to garner wins at several film festivals. It also earned an Independent Spirit Award nomination for Ms. Janney, as well as a Prism Award for Janney, Keith Carradine, and the producing team. A graduate of the University of Tennessee, Cubine is a proud member of the DGA and the Television Academy. He is also a novelist. His debut novel, Walking On Electric Air was published in 2010. He also writes the classic cinema blog From Beneath The Hollywood Sign which often highlights his early adventures in Hollywood when his Fairy Godmothers, classic film actresses Ann Rutherford (Gone WIth the Wind, the Andy Hardy series) and Marsha Hunt (Pride and Prejudice, Raw Deal) introduced him to Hollywood royalty.
