“I am able to play monsters well. I understand monsters. I understand madmen”. Anthony Hopkins is a Welsh actor with many years of experience, and very recognized both on the screen and on the stage. He was trained at the Royal Welsh School of Music and Drama, and soon after, he moved to London to join the Royal Academy of Dramatic Art, invited by Laurence Olivier. His early film appearances included The lion in winter (1968), A Bridge Too Far (1977) and David Lynch’s The Elephant Man (1980). During the 1980s he maintained a balance between theater and film, developing in both fields, and in the following decade he participated in outstanding works such as The Silence of the Lambs (1991), playing the serial killer, Hannibal Lecter, Bram Stoker's Dracula (1992), The Remains of the Day (1993) and Nixon (1993), among others. In 2019 he released The Two Popes, where he played Benedict XVI. Acclaimed by critics and audiences alike, he has won numerous awards throughout his career, including several Golden Globes, BAFTA Awards and two Academy Awards, one of them for The Father (2020) making him the oldest winner of the statuette. His ability to transform himself into a variety of characters has made him one of the most respected actors of all time.
