Sonia Paskowitz was born to Russian Jewish parents, Louis and Rose Paskowitz, who emigrated to the USA and settled in Galveston, Texas. The family relocated to San Diego, California, in 1934. Dorian Paskowitz, a medical doctor who gave up medicine to become a professional surfer and surfing teacher, was her brother. She began her movie career (after lying about her age) in It Started with Eve (1941), then she had some more uncredited parts. Her only credited roles were in her most famous film, The Big Sleep (1946), and in her final film, Federal Agent at Large (1950). She quit Hollywood and became a model. She later married Bill Reese, a theater set designer and marketing services company president. They had 4 children, including Mason Reese (the youngest).
