Claude Demers is a self-taught filmmaker whose early short films include "Le bonheur", "Le diable est une petite fille", "Une nuit avec toi" and "L'été". In 2000 he produced, wrote and directed his first feature film, "The Invention of Love", which was in official competition at several international film festivals. In 2006 Demers made his second feature film, "Barbers - A Men's Story", - which won the Gémeaux award for Best documentary editing - and was a finalist in the Best director category of The Academy of Canadian Cinema & Television. In 2007 the Montreal-based Cinemathèque québécoise organized a retrospective of Demers' work. "Ladies in Blue" is his third feature film. The film opened Montreal's Festival du Nouveau Cinéma in 2009 and has also been selected in Official Competition at Sao Paulo International Film Festival in autumn 2009. In 2010, Claude Demers works on two new feature-film projects. "Verdun", a film about his childhood in this working-class neighborhood of Montreal. And "Coupable", a made-to-order film about pedophilia that will be shot in Canada, the United States and France.
