Max Dora, born in 1921 in Basel, started in 1944 in the Peka-Film laboratories in Zurich, then directed the sound design workshops from 1945 to 1947. That same year he became the successful director of Gloriafilms. His great management skills earned him requests from almost all Swiss film companies: co-director of Praesens-Films (1959-1964), production director of Standard-Film and CEFI-Film (1965-1972), of Ciné-Journal Suisse (1975-1975), of Elite-Film and of the Army Film Service (1976) and Condor-Film (from 1977). He was also a producer for the German-speaking TV, a member of the Federal Film Commission (1963-1972) and a member of the Board of Directors of the Swiss Film Library. A supporter of a well-made mainstream cinema , he was a key figure in the cinema of his country.
