David Edwards was the third of four children born into the Edwards family. Sent to boarding schools during the Blitz, he successfully endured the nightmare of daily German bombing and poor rations and pursued his dream of professional theatre. David performed in numerous playhouses in London, including the Old Vic, before moving on to television. His most notable television role was in The Appleyards (1952) as John Appleyard. He also appeared in several English films during this period, most notably as Will Scarlet in a Robin Hood adaptation and as one of the Hitler Jugend in I Am a Camera (1955).
