Composer, songwriter ("Ja Da"), and pianist. After a public-school education, he served in the US Navy during World War I, and wrote musicals for the Great Lakes Naval Training Center in Illinois. Joining ASCAP in 1942, his other popular-song compositions include "Teasin'", "I've Spent the Evening In Heaven", "I've Got to Break Myself of You", and "Where the Blues Were Born in New Orleans".
