Derek Chiu Sung-Kee is a veteran filmmaker from Hong Kong. As of 2018, he has directed 18 feature films, including his latest film No.1 Chung Ying Street which won the Grand Prix at the Osaka Asian Film Festival in March, 2018. Derek started his career in TV and directed over 30 TV drama series and telemovies in the 1980s and 1990s. He studied Foreign Languages and Literatures at the National Taiwan University. He is currently an associate professor at the School of Creative Media in the City University of Hong Kong. More recently, Derek served as producer on Mad World (2016). The acclaimed film won multiple awards, including best new director for Wong Chun at both the Golden Horse Awards and the Hong Kong Film Awards. His selected filmography includes: Mr Sardine (1994) was screened at the Hong Kong International Film Festival and Toronto International Film Festival; The Log (1996) won best actor for Kent Cheng and was voted one of the 10 best films of the year by the Hong Kong Film Critics Society; Comeuppance (2000) was screened at the Berlin International Film Festival and Tokyo Filmex; Road To Dawn (aka Before The Sunrise) (2006) earned the most popular actor award for Winston Chao and the most promising newcomer award for Wu Yue at the Shanghai International Film Festival; 72 Martyrs (aka 72 Heroes) (2011) was named most outstanding film at the Macau International Movie Festival.
