Studied with Sanford Meisner and went on to teach acting at the Neighborhood Playhouse in New York for eight years. Also a writer, Courtney had several shows produced in New York including the rock musical Salvation, the biggest off-Broadway hit of the year. Later he co-wrote Earl of Rustin which ran on Broadway. Courtney also received 21 Gold Records for his work in the music business.
