Lina Cruz is a Colombian-born, Canadian choreographer. She was born in Cartagena, Colombia. She lived in Madrid, Spain, as of the age of 16, where she began training as a professional dancer. She came to Montreal in 1989, where she is dedicated to developing works in contemporary dance. Her works have received Dora Mavor Moore awards and nominations in various categories: * Outstanding Original Choreography: award to Lina Cruz in 2017 for Ylem (3 Eggs Ago), award in 2012 for Soupe du Jour and nomination in 2016 for Waiting for a Sleepless Night Outstanding. * Original Sound/Composition: award to Philippe Noireaut in 2012 for Soupe du Jour and nomination in 2017 for Ylem (3 Eggs Ago). * Outstanding Performance by an Ensemble: nomination to Throwdown Collective in 2017 for Ylem (E Eggs Ago). * Outstanding Performance by a Dancer: award to Fabien Piché in 2016 for Waiting for a Sleepless Night. Most of Cruz's choreographic works have premiered at Agora de la danse and Tangente, in Montreal, and toured thereafter. Her interest in the visual aspect of her work as a choreographer, has led her to explore the short film format. Hairy Dreams is her first art film, it premiered in Montreal in 2024 in the official selection of the International Festival of Films on Art - FIFA 42. Hairy Dreams was part of the Quarter Finals selection of Hell Chess Film festival 2024. In the 2024 Spring Edition of Toronto's Alternative Film Festival, Hairy Dreams was nominated in the following categories: Best Experimental Short Film (North America) and Best Dance Short Film.
